The Story Behind the Tee

After a frustrating third place finish behind both Mercedes drivers in 2020, Max came out swinging as the 2021 season burst into action.

Trading blows with Lewis Hamilton, the two drivers set the scene for the season ahead, going one-for-one answering race win with race win, hammering out the beginnings of one of the greatest F1 rivalries in the first five races of the season. 

Cue the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

With Max well on his way to this third race win of the season to level with Hamilton, his tire blew out with dramatic effect, sending his Red Bull crashing into the barrier and out of the race. 

What followed was a demonstration of just how tense this season was becoming for the battling drivers and Max's sheer drive and desire to win.

Emerging unscathed from the damage, Verstappen rounded on his battered car and sent a boot hard into the the tire exuding pure frustration as the race win was wrenched from his fingers out of nowhere.

But this moment certainly wasn't the end of the story or Max's title challenge. The ruthless Dutchman made sure he got the last laugh in a season that will go down as one of the best ever.
